Artist Statement

On trips to Mexico, I fell in love with the vernacular Mexican cross.  And then during a trip to Arizona, I was struck by the political turmoil there regarding immigration.  The two ideas came together.  The cross was a perfect vehicle to express my feelings and to invite everyone to think about the issues.  The cross as a Mexican art form.  The cross literally (a "border crossing").  The cross as a symbol of hope, sacrifice, faith.

While much of my work focuses on politcal and social issues, more recent pieces use nature as a jumping off point.
