Artist Statement
My art is driven by ideas rather than materials.  One of two themes runs through most of my work.  The first is irony; much of it underlined by indignation.  My focus is generally popular culture, government policy, social mores, and what I consider to be insults to the human spirit.  The other theme is humor with echoes of the idea that there is a serious seed of reality in every joke.  My work is literal and occasionally ambiguous, but rarely by intent.  I like it when that happens, however, because my goal is to prompt dialog in a gallery or other art setting.  I don’t believe that art necessarily equals beauty in the usual sense of the word.  My ideas come from life:  news, art, and politics.  I target the sorts of events that strike me as absurd or unfair.  If I could draw I’d probably be a cartoonist
