I find inspiration for my work in diverse sources that range from popular culture to politics to functional folk art to shapes that seem to appear out of nowhere. My wall sculptures begin by creating a base structure of machine-stitched thread, I may alter the basic shape with lines of color or holes or I may then draw from a variety of materials that may include yarn, flax fiber, paper, plastic, telephone wire and found objects to define and embellish it. Sometimes I simply use layers of color and texture. My mixed-media fiber sculptures range in size from quite small to larger than life, and range in expression from the whimsical and satiric to decorative and purely abstract. Layers of shadow, texture and materials serve as a metaphor for the layers of meaning and inferred connections in our lives, and hopefully invite the viewer to look deeper on different levels.
