Toxic Habits

I am a storyteller using fiber and mixed media to tell my stories. My stories began as personal fables and evolved into social commentaries when I realized that most recycled materials in my work have their own history; having been produced by many other hands on different continents before they came to me. In my piece “Toxic Habits”, deformed frogs made of cotton remnants are displayed in lab-like archetype using plastic bottles. This piece is a commentary of our consumer habits that fuel the environmental toxic build-up. On the other hand, in “Chronicles of Young Bride” the cultural symbol of Korean womanhood, the Bojaghi becomes a vehicle to illustrate four specific moments in a woman's marriage and the difficult first years of the new bride’s life in her husband’s household.
