Artist Statement elisecheval@gmail.com Elise Cheval - scientist, teacher, writer, contemporary textile artist, musician and painter - draws on her rich background when she combines her needle art skills with her personal, eco-sociopolitical and community interests in her art-making. From the art gallery to the runway, her work must have a strong visual impact that says something about who she is, what her concerns are for Mother Earth and what she is up to with her community. As a musician and singer, she wears her art on her sleeve during her stage performances, and invites the listener to make up their own stories and engage in a conversation with the elements of life. Her current focus is on sharing her wearable arts with her community in a project called project GREEN RUNWAY where youth create their own high fashion trashion out of recycled materials and learn valuable leadership skills.
