Juline Beier: Plexii members Pam, Karen and Diana reported glowingly on Juline’s opening at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. They felt the space was beautifully scaled and lit to show off her work to best advantage. Seen in the large crowd of enthusiastic attendees were the three named above plus Holly Badgely, Alex Moses, and Juline and Diana’s spouses (Joe and Richard). It was a magnificent evening, which will be remembered for a long time to come.
As a sidebar, another show in the upstairs gallery at SLO Museum of Art was by a group of artists who had been together for 40 years. The show, called The Red Thread” had an interesting concept. One artist made a piece and then another artist used it as inspiration for her piece, and on it went with each one riffing off the one before. It was kind of the artists’ version of the childhood game, “Telephone”. Many thought that this might be a good theme for our show following the Quotation Marks show.
Roz Ritter and Marie Bergstedt: They are currently having a two person show entitled “Relatable” at the Community College of Merced. The opening on February 20th was a huge success. Roz will also be in an international fiber show in Pittsburgh, PA which will tour to the Textile Museum in San Jose.
Julie Garner: She is currently part of a two-person show at Rebound Books on 4th St in San Rafael. Several Plexii plus Carole Beadle were among the attendees. The other artist in the show works in collage, is an art critic and teaches at the San Francisco Art Institute. Good company, Julie.
Karen Balos: Has her quilts on permanent loan at the Oakland Public Library, Caesar Chavez Branch.
Stuart Wagner: His coffin piece is in the “Beyond Gaga” show at Works, a gallery in San Jose. It will be open until March 9th. Please check workssanjose.org for exact times. It will also be open for the first Friday Art Walk in San Jose, which is March 1st from 7-10 PM. The show was organized in collaboration with the Pacific Rim Sculptors Group. If anyone is interested in joining, membership is $40, check at pacrim.com
